Whether it’s a complete career change or a shift to a different project or position, it always means stepping out of your comfort zone, venturing into the unknown, and sometimes even dealing with nerves. But it’s worth it. We are proud that our Systeum employees take these steps and that we have the tools to support and assist them.
We are grateful that Marek trusted us and allowed us to share his story. It may inspire someone who is considering their next career move.
“Don’t be afraid and give it a try.” Marek started at Systeum as a manual tester of software intercoms and currently works as an automation QA engineer. |
Before Marek joined our Systeum team, he worked for a company that developed and sold add-on solutions for the economic system Pohoda. His position was not specifically defined; he was involved in sales, technical support, and occasionally manual testing of new products.
The first project Marek undertook as a Systeum employee was manual testing in the telecommunications company 2N. He first tested software for intercoms and other security devices. Subsequently, he was involved in testing the automation of a web portal for managing these devices.
Alongside this project, he began self-learning of automated testing. He quickly managed to apply the theory in practice and soon gained a foothold in automation on the project. After three years of experience as a manual tester, with increasing involvement in automation, he moved to a position where he contributed to developing automated tests for the CSOB smart banking mobile application.
Why did you want this change?
Automated testing interested me and I enjoyed it (and still enjoy) much more than manual testing.
How did Systeum help you?
In the beginning, the testing training provided by Systeum helped me a lot. Additionally, I used the educational budget available to every Systeum employee to purchase several courses. I focused mainly on the basics of programming.
Systeum found me a new project where I could fully focus on automation. Overall, I feel that Systeum made this transition much easier for me.
What would you recommend to your colleagues at Systeum who are also considering a position or career change?
Don’t be afraid and give it a try. You can always return to your original position. :)
Finally, we asked Marek for recommendations and motivation for everyone considering a career in IT or just starting out in the field.
Marek, what would you say?
I like to keep it brief, so the same thing I’d say to my colleagues at Systeum: Don’t be afraid and give it a try. You can always return to your original position. :)
At Systeum, we are glad that we can lend a helping hand and stand by you even when taking steps into the unknown. We are always keen to hear feedback from our Systeum employees, so you can discuss your career advancement path during regular 1-to-1 meetings with your HR consultant. We know that education is important and it is doubly so when changing positions. That’s why every IT specialist at Systeum has an educational budget that they can use for courses, certifications, or conferences.
